Gildea Resource Center

In the late 1970's we realized the dream of owning and developing our own center. With the help of friends like former Board members Robert Easton and Jim Gildea, we were able to purchase the site of an old dairy farm in an area of Santa Barbara known as The Mesa.

A design competition for the building attracted 23 Santa Barbara architectural firms. The winner -- Design Works and its lead architects Brian Cearnal and Jim Tremaine -- worked with Dennis Allen Construction to complete the building in August 1984. The architects proposed a design that transcends the limited vocabulary commonly stereotyped as "solar" and demonstrated a subtle blend of art and technology.
