In recent years, an increasing number of community leaders have begun to recognize that companies that could locate anywhere are attracted to the South Coast because of our clean air, scenic spaces, low crime rates, good schools, comparatively less congested roads and overall "quality of life." In other words — we are realizing that the health of our environmental and social systems are inextricably connected to the health of our economy.

For several years, CEC and a team now led by the UCSB Economic Forecast Project have been keeping an eye on these non-traditional "indicators" of our community's health. Each spring, the group releases an annual report that measures and tracks data on almost 60 social, environmental and economic topics, including housing affordability, air and water quality, energy consumption, domestic violence and civic engagement.

Your input into this community-driven process is extremely valuable. To get involved, call us at (805) 963-0583, ext. 103, or email us.
